The Montessori method, by the sea
For over a century, the Montessori method has helped children become confident, capable, and self-directed. Here in Pawleys Island, we practice it with fidelity, and the natural world sits right at our doorstep.

We follow the child
Every child carries an inner drive to learn. Our role is to prepare an environment where that drive can flourish. We observe closely, offer the right lesson at the right moment, and then step back so the child can discover for themselves.
The result is a child who is independent, focused, and genuinely joyful in their work.
Six principles in every classroom
Prepared Environment
Beautiful, ordered classrooms with everything at child height, designed for independence and freedom of movement.
Hands-On Materials
Scientifically-designed materials make abstract ideas concrete. Children learn by doing, with all their senses.
The Trained Guide
Our teachers are credentialed Montessori guides who observe, mentor, and connect each child to meaningful work.
Freedom within Limits
Children choose their work freely within clear, consistent boundaries, building self-discipline and responsibility.
Mixed-Age Community
Three-year groupings let children learn from peers and grow into mentors, a true community of learners.
The Work Cycle
Long, uninterrupted blocks of time let children reach deep concentration, the heart of real learning.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, “The children are now working as if I did not exist.”
